Situated right on the beach past the harbour. Lots of photos of the storms and extraordinary seas it has survived.


Chestfield Barn, Chestfield, Whitstable (01227 793086) (2 miles)
The Chestfield Barn originated as part of the Chestfield Manor in the 14th century, a possession of the half brother of William the Conqueror. Believe it was once owned by the Kray family. Good pub food dishes, excellent beer and fine wine


Royal Naval Reserve, 28-30 High Street, Whitstable (01227 272068)
Very traditional old seafaring pub and restaurant. The pub grub has a strong fish orientation with skate, plaice, sole and rock on the menu. A wide range of snacks and specials are usually available.

Friendly pub offering bar snacks, good beers and pool. Live entertainment most weekends with occassional accoustic guitar evenings.

Undergone recent transformation. Starters ranging from mezzes to calamari; main courses from Morroccan chicken and olives to Cumberland sausage; ciabattas, baguettes, sandwiches. Very pleasant.

Gorgeous and authentic 14th century English pub with large inglenook fireplace. Superb menu served by real wenches!

Real Ale from the barrel, good wholesome dishes such as “Spicey Bean Hotpot”, Black Pudding sandwich with mango chutney and “Breakfast in Bread” etc. Pretty brook runs through garden with ducks (duck food sold in bar).

Large, rambling riverside Inn with terrace dining area. Food and service excellent. Families welcome. Good area for riverside walks and birdwatching.

Cosy atmosphere (open fires in winter) and excellent food. Barbecues on Sundays in the summer. Saxon church and bird reserve nearby. Children welcome.

Beautiful little pub by the green with nice atmosphere (open fires in winter). Good basic cuisine. Howlett’s zoo and several other attractive villages nearby.


Rose and Crown, Perry Wood, nr Selling, Faversham (01227 752214) (about 12 miles)
Wonderful location in the woods. Standard pub food served in the dining room and the large sheltered garden in summer. Separate play garden for children. Ideal base for exploring the extensive woodland paths (maps in the bar).

14th Century Inn with beamed A La Carte Restaurant and its own bar. The pub overlooks the village green and 11th century church. Open each evening from Tuesday to Saturday and Sunday lunch.


Shipwrights Arms, Hollowshore, Faversham (01795 590088) (about 12 miles)
17th Century white weatherboard pub located at the end of a country lane with views over the creeks to Sheppey. No electricity - it relies on its own generator! Won the CAMRA Kent pub of the year award in 2001 and 2002, and nearly won the coveted National Pub of the Year award in 2001.
